This course deals with the basic concepts, principles and operations on sets and real numbers. It includes topics of measurement and geometry.
Math 101 FUNDAMENTALS OF MATHEMATICS 3 units
This is an integrative course. It is meant to synthesize and reinforce the concepts, processes and skills learned in the secondary school. The course is guided by the following principles:
The need to emphasize conceptual understanding more than procedural understanding but not sacrificing fundamental quantitative skills;
The need to use contexts that capture real-world problems and maximize the use of modeling and visualizing techniques and using appropriate technology to solve these problems; the need to engage learners in reflexive thinking and provide them opportunities to ‘think outside the box.’
This course further intends to develop and strengthen the following general skills: problem formulating and solving, justifying and reasoning, evaluating and extending, and analytical skills. The use of graphing calculators and computer algebra system is highly encouraged.
Math 102 CONTEMPORARY MATHEMATICS 3 units
This course offers to the students an opportunity to learn when and how. Mathematics can be used in many different real-life situations. Consequently, this course will help students expand their content knowledge in Mathematics. The following principles underlie this course:
Mathematics is useful; Mathematics is realistic and relevant; Mathematics is interesting; Mathematics is needed by all.
This course aims to integrate mathematics theories with reality, thereby increasing the level of mathematical literacy of Filipinos. Problem solving is the central features of this course. The use of graphing calculators and computer algebra systems is highly encouraged.
Stat 101 FUNDAMENTALS OF STATISTICS 3 units
This course deals with descriptive statistics which covers the following: measures of central tendency, point measures and measures of variations. It also acquaints the students with inferential statistics such as hypothesis testing, sampling technique, measures of relationships like correlation and regression, f distribution of ANOVA, t distribution or t-test and non-parametric tests.

Eng 100 BASIC ENGLISH 0 unit
This course aims to improve the English language proficiency of the College Freshmen by learning the critical grammatical structures necessary for communicative functions such as narrating, describing, giving directions, etc. and to acquire adequate vocabulary needed for academic study. The emphasis is on the use of English for communication and learning purposes.
Eng 101 STUDY AND THINKING SKILLS 3 units

This course is first of a series of English subjects to develop students’ communicative and thinking skills for academic study. Reading skills are reinforced as means of acquiring and processing inputs for learning and writing exercises are provide as means for expressing and enhancing students’ thinking.
Eng 102 WRITING IN THE DISCIPLINES 3 units

This course is designed to develop the basic research and writing skills of the students in their specific discipline. The principles of effective paragraph construction are reviewed before the students are exposed to research papermaking and required reports by discipline.
Eng 103 SPEECH COMMUNICATION 3 units
This course is designed to equip the students with necessary theories, principles, and techniques for effective speech communication for various situations. Further it is designed to develop the students’ potentials that will enable them to understand and evaluate messages in a dynamic speech situation.
Lit 101 LITERATURES OF THE PHILIPPINES 3 units
This is a three - unit course that deals with the study of literary forms or genres as exemplified by selected literary texts from various regions in the Philippines including those from overseas.

This course is a continuation of the study of literary forms or genres exemplified by selected literary texts from various countries with major emphasis on the literatures of Southeast Asia.
Rizal LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL 3 units
This course deals with the understanding of the life of Jose Rizal with special focus on his works “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo.” Better understanding in the appreciation of this study is facilitated through literary, historical, biographical, philosophical and sociological analyses.
Hum 101 ART APPRECIATION AND AESTHETICS 3 units
This course deals with the understanding, the enjoyment and expression of feelings and ideas through the different forms of art. It includes theories and principles of Aesthetics and exposes the students to some activities essential to the appreciation of art.
Hum 102 LOGIC 3 units
This course, as an art and science of correct reasoning, presents the rules and procedures that empower students not only to make valid inferences but also to establish the true of their conclusions by way of rational demonstrations.

Psy 101 GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY 3 units
This course deals with the basic orientation in the nature scope methods and principles covering the science of human behavior. It identifies the contextual and empirical foundations of Psychology as they apply to individuals.
Hist 101 PHILIPPINE HISTORY WITH GOVERNANCE
AND CONSTITUTION 3 units
This one-semester course is a comprehensive cultural, social, economic and political history of the Philippines from the Pre Historic period to present. The approach of the course will be interdisciplinary.
Soc Sci 101 Society and culture with family planning 3 units
This course gives a perspective on the fundamentals of sociology, its scope, nature and basic concepts and their application in understanding the Philippine society. It includes Family Planning and gender development.
SOC SCI 102 ECONOMICS 3 units
This is an introductory course to the study of economics. It introduces the basic concepts, principles, and current issues on economics, cooperatives, agrarian reforms and taxation.

Sci 101 BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES 3 units
This is a three-unit course that introduces students who are taking non-biological science courses to very diverse living components of the world where we live. It intends to inform them the various levels of organization in living organisms and their roles, functions, importance and inter-relationships with others in our ever-dynamic ecosystem. Ultimately, the students may come to know and value the existence of a living entity, macro and micro at that, in maintaining balance of nature and be equipped with necessary know-how if ever the abnormal presence of one or more causes an imbalance and poses threat to others.
Sci 102 EARTH SCIENCE 3 units
A course providing an overview of the physical earth, its structure and composition and the various processes that sculpture the earth’s surface; integration of astronomy, metrology, geology, chemistry, physics and environmental concepts.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PE 101 FUNDAMENTALS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS 2 units
This course deals with the scientific foundations of physical fitness, the essentials of promoting physical health, fitness and wellness. The students shall undergo pretest and posttest in all physical fitness components.
PE 102 INDIVIDUAL AND DUAL SPORTS 2 units

This course deals with the fundamental rules and skills acquisition in the playing of individual and dual sports/games and recreational activities. Included in the course are internationally played and indigenous sports and games.
PE 103 DANCES 2 units

This course provides the students with opportunities to appreciate and understand our own and other people through dances. It deals with the fundamental steps in Folk and Social dancing.
PE 104 TEAM SPORTS 2 units
*Prerequisite: PE 101
This course deals with the study of team sports and games which form an important and vital course of the tertiary physical education curriculum, giving emphasis on the development of students’ physical skills, level of fitness, intellectual growth and social interactions through well-organized sports activities. Included in the course are major sports/games commonly played in local and international competitions such as basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and sepak takraw.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
ICT 101 INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION 3 units
TECHNOLOGY
This is a three (3)-unit modular course which focuses on the understanding of concepts, the acquisition of basic skills and attitudes related to the various information and communications technologies. The course covers concepts and skills aimed at providing students with basic literacy on current ICTs including the Internet and other telecommunications and network-based technologies and their utilization for research, communication, publishing, productivity, teaching and learning. The course is delivered through a combination of lecture and laboratory activities.
NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM
NSTP 101A RESERVED OFFICERS TRAINING 3 units
COURSE (ROTC)
This course is good for 90 periods or 15 training weeks. It is designed to train cadets as future soldiers in the AFP Reserved Force. It is further intended to indoctrinate and equip ROTC cadets with the basic knowledge on fundamentals and principles of military service, skills to move, shoot and communicate, and the right attitude of a military professional.
NSTP 101B CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING 3 units
SERVICE (CWTS)
The Civic Welfare Training Service as a component of the National Service Training Program is a course for first year students both male and female designed to help them understand and appreciate and eventually live by the basic concepts of the Student’s Transformation and Enrichment for Truth with the end in view of empowering them in becoming a potent resource for community development.
NSTP102A RESERVED OFFICERS TRAINING 3 units
COURSE (ROTC)
*Prerequisite: NSTP 101A
This course which has 90 periods or 15 weeks of training is intended to prepare the cadets for incorporation as infantrymen in the Army Reserved Force. It is further designed to train and develop ROTC cadets in the rudiments of military tactics and services in order to produce capable, responsible, and adequately-trained Army Reservists. It also provides the cadets with basic knowledge and attitudes on general military subjects, small unit tactics (Squad, Section, Platoon and Company levels), crew-served weapons and individual unit training as Army Reservists.
NSTP 102B CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING 3 units

The Civic Welfare Training Service is a sequel to the first CWTS. It is designed to immerse students in activities that will arm them with the capability to contribute to the uplift of the general welfare and the quality of life of the members of the community as well as to enhance the facilities of the community, especially those that are devoted to improving the health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizens.

THEORY COURSES
Educ 101 CHILD AND ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT 3 units
This is a basic course on child and adolescent development focusing on current research and theory on the biological, linguistic, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions of development and the factors that affect the progress of development.
The coverage of the course is structured to cover the key dimensions of the development of the children and adolescents: physical, linguistic, cognitive and socio-emotional development. For each dimension, the core contemporary research findings and theories are covered. Particular emphasis is given to the factors that have been identified as having positive or negative effects on the natural course of these developmental processes. In addition, some focus is given to the exceptional cases when children or adolescents vary from the natural course.
The coverage of these ideas is intended to provide the future teacher with a broad yet fairly detailed understanding of the developmental processes that students undergo and do that such an understanding may be used to guide all dealings ( i.e. formal instructional, informal social, etc.) with the students.
Educ 102 FACILITATING HUMAN LEARNING 3 units
The course emphasizes contemporary theories and research on the cognitive, metacognitive, motivational, socio-cultural, and individual difference factors in the acquisition of knowledge.
The course coverage shall focus on contemporary theories and research on learning. (As such, some of the traditional theories of learning will not be addressed in detail.) The exploration and discussion of these theories and research will focus on how these apply to the Philippines, regional, local, and personal experience. More importantly, the processing of the theories and research will emphasize how teacher may use the various ideas to better facilitate the learning processes among students.
Educ 103 SOCIAL DIMENSIONS OF EDUCATION 3 units
This course is an introduction to social science (economic, socio-cultural, political, geographical and environmental processes) theory and research as they relate to education and to understanding of the four pillars of learning, which are fundamental in making critical and logical decision as an active member in the society and as a global citizen. The course aims to enhance critical understanding and responding to the transformations in education, work, culture, globalization and subjectivity that have induced education, economic, socio-cultural, political, geographical and environmental networks.

This course introduces prospective teachers to the nature of teaching. It deals specifically with the principles of effective instruction and the concomitant processes involved; instructional planning and demonstration teaching.
The course is a blend of theoretical information and selected matching actual experiences.

Educ 105 PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING II 3 units

The course introduces prospective secondary and elementary teachers to knowledge and understanding of the subject area which includes: foundation disciplines, structural components, and models of teaching and assessment strategies. These will provide the student with the theoretical underpinnings in teaching and develop concepts, skills, attitudes, values related to the subject area.

Educ 107 EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY I 3 units
This is a 3-unit course designed to introduce the basic learning theories and principles as bases for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of instruction using education technology. Students are expected to acquire skills in integrating technology in various content areas. Course activities are focused on the design and development of ICT-based instructional plans.
Educ 108 EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY II 3 units
This is a 3- unit course designed to introduce both traditional and innovative technologies to facilitate and foster meaningful and effective learning.
Students are expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature, application and production of the various types of educational technologies. The course will likewise focus both on developing teacher-support materials and the production of technology-based student outputs.
Educ 109 ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING I 3 units
The course focuses on the development and utilization of assessment tools to improve the teaching-learning process. It emphasizes the use of testing for measuring knowledge, comprehension and other thinking skills. It allows the students to go through the standard steps in test construction for quality assessment.
Educ 110 ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING II 3 units
The course focuses on the development and utilization of assessment of alternative forms of assessment in measuring authentic learning. Emphasis is given to ways of assessing process- and product-oriented learning targets as well as affective learning. Students will experience how to develop rubrics for performance-0based and portfolio assessment.
Educ 111 CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT 3 units
The course is intended to introduce the education students to effective curriculum design and assessment. The course topics include curriculum models, principles and approaches in designing, delivering and addressing the curriculum.
Educ 112 THE TEACHING PROFESSION 3 units
The course deals with the teacher as an individual, classroom teacher, community teacher and global teacher. This emphasizes professionalization to cover teachers’ status and levels of professional rewards and professionalism to improve competencies.

This course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to make environmental education relevant to culturally diverse audiences. Through this course they will broaden their perspective of environmental education to encompass interests and issues of concern to students in order for them to participate as they devise ways of adapting to a diverse environment in the future.

Practice Teaching is a 6-unit course offered to those who have completed all Field Study courses. It is part of the Experiential Learning courses of the new Teacher Education Curriculum which gives prospective teachers the chance to experience the life in actual learning environment. The opportunities and experiences embedded in this course will enable them to meet the challenges of the real learning environment. The varied requirements will help them cope with the demands of the profession.

FS 1 Learners’ Development

This course is designed to help the education students verify the behavior of the child in the actual classroom setting. It will require them to recognize the feasible approaches to facilitate learning considering the learners’ different phases of development and social environment.
FS 2 Experiencing the Teaching-Learning
Process 1 unit
*Prerequisite: FS 1, Educ 104, Educ 105
This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to examine the application of teaching theories and principles in the learning environment. Students are expected to verify the cognitive, metacognitive, individual differences and motivational factors that influence the acquisition of knowledge. The students are given the chance to develop and try out learning tasks, instructional materials and assessment tools.
FS 3 TECHNOLOGY IN THE LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT 1 unit
*Prerequisite: FS 2, Educ 107, Educ 108
This course is designed to enrich the students’ experiences in developing and utilizing appropriate technology to facilitate learning. It shall also provide exposure and hand-on opportunities in the use of Information and Communications Technology.
FS 4 UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT 1 unit
*Prerequisite: FS 3, Educ 111
This course is intended to introduce the education pre-service students to effective curriculum design and assessment. The course topics include curriculum models, principles and approaches in designing, delivering and addressing the curriculum.
It emphasizes familiarity with contemporary curriculum policies and framework and their relevance or planning, pedagogy and assessment at the classroom level.
FS 5 LEARNING ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES 1 unit
This course allows the student to have Hands-on experiences in assigning an assessment tool, launching this in the classroom and evaluating the results based on the principles of teaching.
FS 6 ON BECOMING A TEACHER 1 unit
This course provides opportunities for the students to explore the utilization of alternative assessment tools in actual classroom setting. It will also require them to apply the concepts they have learned about developing rubrics for performance-based and portfolio assessment.
